tabs, groupboxes

I'm looking for a surface to put components on.
The surface will hold the components as a parent and it should pass some basic settings to the child.
Visible, enabled, Zaxe pos.
I'm used to put buttons, labels etc onto a groupbox or tabsheet.
But when i look in the help it states the following about the groupbox: "The Group Box is used to draw a labeled frame around a group of objects."
I cannot find any way to state an object has the groupbox as parent.
In windows im used to a completely different functionality when it come to groupboxes.
Why is it called a groupbox if it just a labeled frame?
What am i missing here?
